LA CROSSE, WI—The little ones at VARC's Preschool Childcare Center (PCC) have been busy moving, tumbling, and grooving this summer. Every Thursday morning, their Gillette Street location proudly hosts instructors from Applause Dance Academy to give Creative Dance and Tumbling classes to participating children.
With music pumping and fun props strewn about the space, the PCC's little dancers are developing their agility and focus through motion and play. Our eager students are mastering the tumbling aspect of these lessons, funneling their boundless energies into skill-building.
The benefits of children learning dance and performance are multidimensional. The physical benefits are obvious: improved muscle strength, flexibility, stamina, bone health, cardiovascular health, and balance. Academic performance and dance participation are linked to emotional and social health benefits, as they enhance critical thinking and stimulate memory retention and communication skills. Dancing is a creative emotional outlet that utilizes imagination and expression through movement.
Classroom environments like the one at the PCC allow children to come together, communicate, and collaborate effectively. Social inclusion spurs cognitive benefits, including higher self-esteem, cognitive growth, boosted memory, a firmer grasp on self-discipline, and the ease of depression and anxiety.
